Final Idea

For our final idea we have decided that at the beginning you will see the back of a hooded man making a ransom letter. Then it will switch to the shot of a professional, glamourous woman returning home from work wearing sophisticated clothing. She will then find the letter but before opening it she will carry with her everyday routine e.g getting wine out of the fridge. When she finally opens the letter she drops the wine and runs and you will see the letter fall slowly and piece of the ransom left behind. You will then see her running across millennium bridge and lady smith football grounds because we think these settings will suit the story line best. While she is running, we thought it would be effective to have flashbacks of her troubled past and towards the end of the run she will have returned to her old, drug-abusing self.
If this was to turn into a feature length film it would tell the story of what happened to the girl in order for her to be in this situation.

Interviews

This is my survey of which films people enjoy, and together will with my group this will give us some good information to help us with our film. After carrying out this research, together with my groups i noticed that, both males and females enjoy comedies. Females generally prefer romantic films whereas boys would say that they gives a false preception of love. Boys generally prefer action or scary films. Most people, both male and female, said that the beginning of a film is important because it sets the mood of the film which means are openings must grab the audience and also be clear of what the genre is. In addition, there was 'umming' and 'ahhing' when we asked about the showing of memories in a film. Some people said this sometimes confused them, however if it is done well they thought it gives a better understanding of the character.

Improvement to our Idea

While Ciara was telling her dad about our film idea, she accidentally told it wrong. However after correcting her mistake, her dad said he preferred the first version she told and so did the rest of the group. Here is her explanation.

Market Research

We thought the following questions will give us good answers to grasp the current audience demand, demographics, contemporary topics of films etc to give us some information about is appealing.

1) What gender are you?
2) How old are you?
3) What is your preferred movie genre and why?
4) What is your worst movie genre and why?
5) What is your favourite film and why?
6) What is your leas favourite film and why?
7) How important is the opening sequence of the film in your opinion?
8) How effective do you think showing characters memories are in a film?
9) Does the actors in a film influence whether you watch it or it?
10) What are the things you look for in a film? (e.g. love, action, cars etc)

Practise Filming

I love this however we forgot to mute the panning section, you can hear my amazing piano playing in the background, we now know not to make this mistake in our real film.

Filming and Editing

Filming with my group was fun and I think we work well together and bounce off each others ideas well. Doing our prelim, which was a scene from Mean Girls with our own twist. This was the first time using the cameras which got us used to using them and experimenting with different camera shots which gave us inspiration for our final idea. Also, it was my first time being on camera and 'acting' in front of everyone.
Editing was good, there is so much you can do with iMovie and we only used a small amount of the many effects available. I'm excited to explore more of iMovie and I think I'll enjoy editing a lot.
However, we horrifically thought we lost our footage but there was loud sighs of relief when we realised it was a false alarm, phew.

Unexpected Pitch

This is our initial thoughts and ideas for our two-minute film opening. We pitched it to the class for some constructive criticism  however they all liked the idea we came up with and Miss Foster gave us the 'green light' which was a relief.

First Group Vlog

A group vlog talking about our prelim.

First Group Vlog Attempt

Our first attempt of filming together, evidently didn't go to plan.

180-Degree Rule

The 180-degree rule is the idea that all filming should be shot from one side of an imaginary line or visual line between characters. This is done in order to not confuse the audience, as they have subconsciously formed a mental map of where the different characters are.
However sometimes the rule is broken for effect,  but a re-establishing shot must be done to tell the audience where the characters are.
This video gives a visual explanation:

Storyboarding

In lesson the class was shown a section of episode 1 of series 3 of 'Luther' and was asked to do a storyboard of the clip to practice when it comes to our own film. From doing this I know I will hate story-boarding because of my evidently terrible drawings.

Film making Techniques

My Favourite Female Actor

Sandra Bullock is my favourite female actor because of her ability to take on a variety of different characters in many well-loved films. She is also inspirational because of her bravery of adopting a child and raising him as a single parent while continuing to devote herself to many amazing films that she has starred in.  I love all the films she has been in because she captures each role perfectly.

My Favourite Male Actor

My favourite male actor would have to be Will Smith because of the way he captures every role he plays. He has been the protagonist in many different film genres and series from comedy to sci-fi. He executes every role tremendously even though they are so different. In addition Will Smith is a dedicated actor and really assimilates every role he plays. He has also won many awards and is a well-loved actor by many.

My Favourite Film

Picking a favourite film is difficult, there are so many that I love and could watch over and over without getting bored. There are many different genres that make you feel a different way: scared, sad, happy. The film that really stands out to me though is ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ because of how moving the plot is. The film portrays stereotypes of teenagers such as alcohol and drug abuse however the many twists throughout the film really allow you to empathize with the characters. In addition I really like a quote from the film ‘you only accept the love you think you deserve’ which has stuck with me ever since I first watched it. It’s a film I highly recommend and I guarantee it will make you cry your eyes out.
